Everyone wants the school in their community to be the best school it can be. Over the years many approaches have been tried. The best successes will come when everyone involved has a clear understanding of the vision and know how they can contribute to its success. Co-operation is about working together - creating an environment where all the stakeholders involved, from parents and learners, to staff and members of the community have the best chance of creating a good school for the young people in their community.

A new emphasis on co-operation through Co-operative Schools across the country is starting to make a difference through mutual support.

The implications of the Southerly Point Co-operative Educational Trust (the biggest in the UK) will be recognised by all Cornish men and women who are accustomed to living under the Cornish motto, “One and All”. The approach will safeguard their future and continue to provide an outstanding education firmly rooted in social justice for all children, young people and families in this special part of the country.

Our Co-operative Trust consists of 17 schools in the Helston and Lizard area, with links to the national Schools Co-Operative Society.

The aim of the Trust is to improve the quality of learning and progression opportunities for children and young people in the area by working together in co-operative partnerships in accordance with the co-operative movement’s values of:

  • Self-help
  • Self-responsibility
  • Equality
  • Equity
  • Democracy
  • Solidarity

And the ethical values of:

  • Openness
  • Honesty
  • Social responsibility and
  • Caring for others
