Honey, Poppy E., Eryn, Jess, Phoebe and Poppy N. have been working with Mrs Pellow in an after school sewing club. They have learnt about applique and used their skills to design and create the front panels of their bags. They selected co-ordinating fabrics to finish the items - see their fabulous finished products in the pictures below.
January 2017 - Chinese New Year
On Monday 30th January we celebrated the Chinese New Year. We made decorations for the hall and had Chinese food for lunch. It is the Year of the Rooster, so we dressed up as chickens and roosters, or in red, gold and Chinese clothing.
Emly in year 3 enjoyed a trip to Lapland before Christmas and the family experienced many things they will never forget, including a spectacular trip into the Artic wilderness in the dark of night.
In a rather fortunate turn of fate, one of Emly’s photos made it into the top 10 of a photo competition, the winner of which (based on the number of likes on Facebook), receives a family skiing holiday to France.
Some excitement started to set in when the competition was close between Emly's photo and one of a reindeer!
Then in a strange turn of events, the family found out that the person who is presently in 2nd place behind Emly is planning to donate the prize (should she win) to a Children’s Bereavement Charity. With that in mind, they feel that their full support should be with her (Becci Halliday) and the photo of her and the reindeer - https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/16115014_10154418560207815_5352010483939627309_n.jpg?oh=9ded60999b29ff52f97d6106ab0a4ec0&oe=59142D30
Naturally, Emly is upset that she will now not win the competition or the ski holiday, however this sadness is nothing compared to how those who lose a child must feel.
We are all delighted that Emly's photo received 1000 votes in just 4 days, and whilst the ski trip would have been wonderful, helping a distressed family through the charity is a heart-warming opportunity to have.
Below is Emly's video thanking everyone for their support...(if it does not play in your browser, please try an alternative one, eg Chrome)
'Sponsor a Christmas Tree' for the Fisherman’s mission
This was our school’s tree, decorated by Mrs Pellow and Mrs Tostdevine with decorations made by year 6 pupils. It was displayed in the Methodist church with 50 trees from other schools and businesses from Helston.
Freedom of Helston Parade
On Wednesday 21st September, we took 48 of our service children to watch the Freedom of Helston parade.
While we waited for the parade to begin, we were greeted by the Mayor of Helston who told the children that she herself had once been a Parc Eglos school pupil.
The parade was short but the children enjoyed it!
Year 5 and 6 School Council children's event with the Town Mayor
The children took part in a question and answer session with the Mayor, a quiz and then a debate about a subject that they feel strongly about in Helston. All children were extremely well mannered and mature throughout the evening and it was great to see them gaining a brilliant understanding of how the Town Council operates.
During April and May 'prederi' workshops took place in school.
“Prederi” is Cornish for “reflect” or “think upon” and is part of the Prayer Spaces in Schools initiative that gives opportunity for children and young people to explore faith and spirituality in a safe, creative and interactive way.
Presented from a broadly Christian perspective ‘prederi’ is appropriate for all faiths or none as it encourages children to reflect on various aspects of life: giving thanks, saying sorry, forgiving others, letting go of bad feelings, thinking about others who are less fortunate in this country and across the world, asking “big questions”, belonging together and much more.
Flora Day Picture Competition - in conjuction with Pictures and Things Gallery, Helston
Our children were invited to take part in a competition to produce a picture depicting Flora Day.

Voting has now finished. Many congratulations to the winner - Dylan Preece - the artist behind picture number 24.

Coaching Training - click here for more on this programme
The Year 5 coaches had a super time in class this afternoon working with their Year 3 coachees. The coaches joined their coachees to see them in their learning environment and to get to know them a bit better. It was a super chance for the partners to begin getting to know each other and some of the discussions might form the basis for their first coaching conversation. They are all really looking forward to their first coaching sessions next week!
The Year 5s are busy with their coaching training so they are ready after half-term to begin coaching their Year 3 coaches. The coaches have been working very hard, learning all about listening, summarising and questioning as core skills they will use in their new role. Here you can see the coaches practising these skills with each other.
Grandparent's Day at Parc Eglos was absolutely fantastic. It was lovely to see almost 200 grandparents turn up and help the children with their learning. They all enjoyed themselves so much and enjoyed a lovely school meal with grandchildren.

This week we have been celebrating Chinese New Year. The children explored Chinese traditions, including their lucky colours of red and gold.
We had a special Chinese lunch with noodles and chicken. Some of us even used chopsticks!
A huge thank you to all of the children who produced some fantastic Chinese work, either in their classrooms or as homework over the half term.
Here are some pictures to show the wonderful time we had and some of the great things we made.
Happy Chinese New Year!

Cornwall Air Ambulance Visit
KS1 and KS2 have had an exciting and educational assembly learning about the Cornwall Air Ambulance. The children learnt lots of new facts and our visitor Jackie, who shared the assembly, was full of knowledge.
Please can we remind families that next week (Friday 26th September) we are having a cake/bun stall at break time for children to be able to buy a cake to help raise money for Cornwall Air Ambulance - we are supporting their 'fund a flight' week. Please can parents send children in with some buns.
Please check our recent newsletters if you need any further information.
